GizmoHub retired. Your options didn’t.

Switching from Gizmo Watch?

In mid-2026 Verizon retired the GizmoHub app and moved every family to the Verizon Family app — and for many parents the rocky migration was the last straw. If you’re ready for a watch that isn’t tied to a carrier’s app strategy, here’s the whole switch in three steps.

The 3-step switch plan

The golden rule: set up the new watch completely before you cancel the old line. Done in the right order, the whole switch takes an afternoon.

1

Save what matters from the old app

Before canceling anything, open the Verizon Family app and write down every approved contact — names and numbers. Contact lists never transfer between brands automatically. If keeping your child’s number matters, ask the new provider about porting BEFORE you cancel; a canceled line usually can’t be ported afterward.

2

Set up the new watch completely

Activate the included SpeedTalk SIM directly with SpeedTalk at speedtalkmobile.com/activate using the 19-digit SIM number printed on the card or its packaging (it runs on the nationwide T-Mobile 4G LTE network). Install the parent app, re-add the contacts, set safe zones and school mode — then make a real test call in both directions.

3

Cancel the Gizmo line last

Only after the new watch has made calls, received calls, and reported location for a full day, cancel the old line with Verizon. If the Gizmo hardware is on a device-payment plan, ask what remains owed so there are no surprise charges.

What the switch does to your budget

All figures as of August 2026, before taxes and fees, using each side’s published prices. Two years is roughly how long a child uses a watch — so that’s the honest window to compare.

Staying on the Gizmo is a fair choice too — $10/month is a genuinely low line cost. Switch because the app change broke your trust or you want off Verizon, not for switching’s sake. Full comparison of every option in our Gizmo alternatives guide.

Before you switch to us — what MeWatch does not do

  • Our watches are not water-resistant. The Gizmo carries a water-resistance rating; ours carry none. A MeWatch comes off before the pool and the bath.
  • Bundled MeWatch plans aren’t here yet. Today you activate the included SpeedTalk SIM directly with SpeedTalk at speedtalkmobile.com/activate — a few minutes of setup a carrier-integrated watch doesn’t ask of you. Our own monthly plans are coming later.
  • We’re the newcomer in the U.S. Verizon has stores and a long track record; we have a shorter one. If brand history is your deciding factor, weigh it honestly.

What you get in exchange: approved-contacts-only calling, GPS and SOS, school mode, zero open internet by design — no browser, no app store, no social media — with no contract, at the lowest total cost in the category.

Ready to see the alternative?

Three watches, one philosophy: your child stays reachable and locatable — and the open internet stays out.
